So this time I’m at Cockpit Arts Studios, helping someone out for the studio open days. Last week I was lucky enough to be given the task of winding a warp and threading/setting up the loom etc. This week I have actually started to weave some samples for her, which is pretty cool that she actually trusts my skills!! It’s been pretty fun testing our structures and yarns that I don’t normally have the chance to use, and it doesn’t feel like work at all.
So normally I don’t really like long written posts BUT… I just finished 2 weeks of work experience for a textile designer based at Livingstone Studio in Hampstead. Even though it was only 2 weeks long, it was possibly the most interesting and cool work i’ve ever really done. I got such an insight into the world of textile design and let me think about what I want to do after I graduate next year (although still no ideas haha, possibly a penniless artist…) Anyway, she let me make and fix her garments and accessories which was fun, but my fingers are in tatters after sewing on a million silk beads, and helping her organise her press packs and display ideas for her upcoming shows. Definitely feel this has been a valuable experience! Starting some more interning next week at Cockpit Arts studio, which hopefully will be as good :)
